Tom Sawyer

This card arrived a while ago from Taiwan and is from Gina. It shows an old Penguin book cover of Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer. Sure this is one of the older "children's books", it was published in 1876, at a time when there were no children's books.

In the background you can see the small church of this Missouri village next to the Mississippi river and I love the way Tom is walking straight into the other direction. Joined by dogs and cats but away from all other brightly dressed people. Lovely cover.

Since Twain died long ago his texts are available at gutenberg.org. Some nice quotes may be found at twainquotes.com. There is a free audiobook available at librivox.com.
