Kathy Reichs - Bones in Her Pocket

Another short story by Kathy Reichs, Bones in Her Pocket, counts as 15,5 in the Tempe Brennan series.
On 80 pages Tempe determines identity and cause of death of a young woman and helps detective Slidell to investigate suspects. The owl droppings she finds with the body give the case a new direction but in the end there is another unexpected turn of events.

After reading a few short stories of several authors in between the real novels I think Kathy Reichs' is the one who manages best to adjust pace and tension to make it work. Although short they have the same good mix of funny dialogues and sound investigation, without continueing the main character's story of course. Short, but enjoyable.
